Candidate Statement 2012: Lee Cooke Childs

by

Town Meeting Member for 19 years first elected in Precinct 10, I topped the ticket and was voted in on the Rent Control issue. We subsequently moved to Precinct 12 in 1999 and with my now deceased husband Maury Childs became members of Neighbors Building Brookline. All seven of our children, including triplets went through Brookline Schools (several).

A former head teacher and board member of the Brookline Arts Center, I went on to graduate from the Radcliff Seminars in Landscape Design, apprenticed with a small private firm and the Massachusetts Division of Capital Planning, achieved registration as a Landscape Architect and worked with my husband’s firm, CBT Architects doing transit planning and institutional design.

As member of the League of Women Voters Brookline I co-chaired Future Search, a broad-based planning charrette for the Comprehensive Plan. I am currently Co-chair of Aspinwall Hill Neighborhood Association and Treasurer of the Brookline Neighborhood Alliance, both outgrowths of Future Search.

Since 1994 I have been working as a registered Real Estate Broker with Chobee Hoy Associates. As a resident for over 40 years I have always been concerned with the Brookline Public Schools, the quality of life in our neighborhoods and in good, transparent and fiscally sound local government. I have enjoyed the endorsement of Brookline Pax for every election. I would appreciate your vote. Thank you.
